Pickwick Yacht Club
(formerly PSA)
The Pickwick Yacht Club sponsors
sailing of all types and is located on Pickwick Lake of the Tennessee River,
at the convergence of the states of Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama.
We have a youth sailing program, a Spring and Fall Sailing Series, and
sponsor two major regattas during the year. Both regattas attract boats
from around the region and as far away as Indiana.
The Governor's Cup was
held the weekend of May 20-21, 2000. The PYC - St. Jude Pumpkin Regatta
will be held the weekend of October 28-29, 2000. Both regattas have
3 sets of races using the PHRF handicap system, with a cup awarded to the
overall winner, as well as, trophies for each Division. Access to further
information can be obtained later in this page.
The
Registration form for the Pumpkin Regatta is located near the bottom

Pickwick and Traveling
Sailors:
Pickwick Yacht Club
is hosting the second annual Pickwick Yacht Club - St. Jude Pumpkin
Regatta, October 28-29. Revenues from this event will go
to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis as they did
last year. This year's regatta promises to be an outstanding event. Always
one of our most popular regattas, it combines good racing and a great party.
The Captain's meeting on Saturday features sausage biscuits and coffee,
compliments of Cafe St. Clair. For the dinner, catered by Outback
Steakhouse, we will have steak and all the trimmings.
Race Information:
The Captain's meeting
at 9:00 AM in the Pickwick Yacht Club facility will cover the specifics
of the event with adjustments for weather conditions. The target
is for each race to last 1½ hours (see race instructions).
Three races will be run over the weekend. We will have a Spinnaker, Non-spinnaker
A and Non-spinnaker B divisions with A and B split on PHRF ratings. Saturday's
race results will be posted on Saturday night at the party. Three
trophies in each division and an overall trophy will be awarded.
All ties for the overall trophy will be broken by calculating the PHRF
adjusted margin of victory for each race over the next place competitor
in their division, summing the totals to get a total margin of victory
for each of the tied boats. The boat with the largest margin of victory
wins the Regatta.
The 1997-2000 Rules of Racing will
be used for this regatta.
Never raced but want
to see what it's all about? Why not get a little experience by sailing
on someone else's boat? If you "need a ride," call Ned Smith at 901
767-1635 or Jerry White at 901 668-4120. Don't be bashful - we'll
find you a ride!!
