"The place for small boat sailing in the Mid-South"

DELTA SAILING ASSOCIATION

DELTA SAILING ASSOCIATION is dedicated to small boat sailing in the Mid-South. DSA, established in 1949, leases land from the Corps of Engineers at Hernando Point on the north shore of Arkabutla Lake in DeSoto County, Mississippi. Club members can dry sail their boats, leave them on the lot, trailer launch on the Corps ramp, and enjoy the dock, pavilion, and heads maintained by DSA.

THE MEMBERS like the convenience of a place to sail 45 minutes from Memphis where they can keep boats year round. Lightnings, Thistles, Hobie Cats and other classes make up the membership.

HOW DO YOU GET THERE? From Memphis go south on I-55, exit at Hernando. Head west the short distance to Hernando Center and turn south on Rt. 51 for about 5 miles. See the signs and head west on Wheeler Road. Go 5 miles to the end of the road and see the masts.

RACING is big at Delta! We hold races from May through October, Lake level and weather permitting. The gun goes off by about 2:30 pm Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Crews gather an hour or so before. Come down and introduce yourself. Crews are often chosen from persistent visitors and crewing is a good way to learn to sail. Some fleet members travel to regattas out of town and really experience the challenges of national competition. DSA owns two Boston Whalers with outboard engines used to run races, and maintains a floating dock for the benefit of its members.

JOINING DSA is easy! Once you put your boat on the lot, you pay the fee and you're a member! You must pay the fee though. There are membership forms in the men's head on the DSA lot and you can fill out one of those, or simply provide your name, address, phone number(s), and hull identification number (on the stern high up on the starboard side), and send it to the DSA address. When the sticker comes be sure to put it on your trailer. We take a dim view of dead beats and keep close track of boats on the lot. Non-payers run the risk of finding their boat out on Corps property and being declared abandoned. There is an order to boat location, so ask before you place your boat.

HOW MUCH does it cost? DSA has three classes of membership depending on your boat:

Members (Lightnings and Thistles who are the voting members) -------------- $200/year
Associate Members I (Hobies, catamarans, and other small boats ----------- $165/year
Associate Member II (Any boat over 20' or 1,000 lbs) ---------------------- $290/year

Dues are on a calendar year only. We cannot prorate membership. Deduct $10 from the above rates if dues for any year are paid before March 31.
